Over view of Gold Beach So here we are finally...at the Curry County Fair in Gold Beach. We arrived Saturday morning after driving over from the Grants Pass area. Hwy 23 through Galice and Agness should be driven once by every adventurer. The weather was perfect beach weather, 65 degrees, sunny with a breeze off the ocean. What a day. In this picture the fairgrounds are straight ahead by the ocean. That is a ferris wheel in the middle.
Rhoda Denning Ticket Guard At the gate we were met by Rhoda Denning, the charming bride of Mr. Denning the Gold Beach School Principal. The Dennings moved to Gold Beach from Phoenix, Arizona to find a good place for their children to grow and prosper.
Edna Riley and her beans

Oh my gosh...Edna Riley.
Edna is a Master Food Preserver. She also is the oldest working hairdresser in Oregon. I think Edna could easily live off the land. She had great examples of dehydrated fruit slices and fruit leather that were excellent in flavor. Better than candy.
Edna is holding a jar of dried beans full of stories. If you can wait for the file to load press play and sit back for an Oregon pioneer tale.

Outdoor Stage The Renegade Dancers performing on the outdoor stage. Later they held the watermelon seed spitting contest.
Cowboy Ralph Estabrook

Rob Estabrook is a real cowboy. We will meet up with him again in Fossil and John Day. Rob was the NWProRodeo Pickupman of the year in 1998 and is the NWProRodeo Director of the year in 2000.
